My first impression of Daxi could be traced back to 2014. I still remember I made a reservation for bumgee jumping(高空彈跳) in Taoyuan County that year, took my Mom with me to go on a two-day trip. The thrilled activities have been held mostly in Fuxing township(復興鄉) which locates very deep in mountains. Therefore, we randomly picked for 老阿伯現滷豆干 as our dinner in Daxi Old Street. I have to say that mix braised dishes was sooo good(especially their sauce).
IF YOU ARE A VEGAN, just inform them first and they will make customized meals for you.

I just have to say freshly peanut candy is my No.1 favorite street food in Daxi!
Jiang Family classic peanut candy(江家古早味花生糖) is the most well-knowned traditional dessert shop in Taiwan, you can also consider it as one of representative snacks in Daxi.
The shopkeeper have to braise maltose first for preparation, choose the best quality of peanut power(mostly from Yunlin County), and plus a little bit icing sugar, salt for the general balance.
They has insisted on homemade procedure simply for providing the best food products to customers, the shopkeeper also shares one of yummy secrets of peanut candy is massage.
They also provide free tasting samples for people who wait in line. Because peanut candy is freshly homemade at the scene, customers are luckily have chances to taste warm, tender and chewy without sticky flavor of peanut candy.
I simply can't tell how scrumptious it is...

This breakfast shop is the one locals recommended to us. They don't have any noticeable signs, so it is easy for anyone just pass by without notice.
Their principle is healthy, delicious and fresh, as a result, not only meat but also sauce is daily homemade by the owner.
We ordered their specialty(roast chicken sandwich with honey mustard sauce) which was really worth to take a try.

Daxi pan-fried bun breakfast shop has been open over than 30 years, it's undoubtedly very popular with locals and tourists.
The pan-fried buns, in another way also knowned as "Sheng jian bao",are originally a specialty of Shanghai.
The first generation of owner was from Shanghai, he opened this breakfast shop to memorize the taste of his hometown.
Don't underestimate this small, round shape baozi, there're details from the inside and out. The outer skin of buns is made from old dough, and as for stuffing it's usually filled with pork, gelatin which melts into soup after heating, and spring onion for the balanced taste.
Mini buns are lined up one by one in an oiled shallow pan, then add water to the pan and cover with a lid to steam buns until the water is totally evaporated and the buns bottom are crispy and sometimes, sesame seeds is added on the top for garnish.
Customers are able to enjoy the soft and fluffy skin with the crispy bottom while the broth inside spilling out at the first bite, just remember not to scald your togue.
By the way, they only provide a limitied amount of  2,000 buns each day, so come here as early as possible!

Besides beef noodles, minced pork sauce noodles is also Taiwanese signature delicacy, more popular with elder generation and people live in mid-south region(like me) in Taiwan.
It's made with minced pork, pieces of sliced pork, meat broth, bean sprouts, garlic chives and Chinese noodles. The key essence of noodle soup is its soup. The soup is usually simmered for a long time, so it's very sweet and that also goes into ingredients as well.
And don't forget to order some side dishes, maybe you'll be amazed by how delicious they are.

Here in Daxi, we found this yummy late night snack which is so popular with locals, we observed that people just came and ordered without hesitation.
Taiwanese fried chicken, also known as popcorn chicken is a common and indispensable delicacy everywhere in Taiwan.
It's deep fried chicken, and we usually eat it with some others like taiwanese sausage, tempura, cuttlefish, dried tofu, some vegetables, as well as finally mixed with basil and garlic.
The definition for a perfect popcorn chicken is that the outer skin must be crispy and crunchy, at the same time ingreidents inside have to be tender and juicy.
You can also have deep fried chicken fillet here if you want, it's also one of taiwanese favorite choice.

We ordered tofu egg soup mixed with vegetable, daylily and sparerib soup, shred chicken rice. What we got are very common dishes in Taiwan, it isn't expensive, however they are simple and flavorful.

Just spend some of your time on the streets adjacent to the main street as it's the area where the Daxi Morning Market is. In these areas, residents do their daily shopping here for cooking, and sometimes some sweet and salty snacks can be bought here. Take us as an example, we found the best braised dried tofu in the morning market accidentally which I will definitely visit again because of it, aha!
